Ejido owners of San Sebastián Bachajón, Chilón municipality, denounced that the officialist (pro-government) authorities seek to dispossess an autonomous ejido owner of his rights through false accusations and with the backing from the state delegates.
“The people from the government make us divide in the communities, making us fight, killing each other among the same compañeros, among brothers,” maintain the indigenous. In the last year they have murdered two important leaders, in real executions by gunmen.
The Tzeltal ejido owners, adherents of the Sixth Declaration of the Lacandón Jungle, point to the president of the ejido commission, Manuel Jiménez Gómez, and other authorities (Pedro Jiménez Gómez, Mariano Espinoza Guzmán, Manuel Gutiérrez Guzmán and Manuel Hernández Moreno, alias Dios Negro), who on June 12, 13, and 14 promoted a general assembly of the three centers that make up the ejido and all of its population centers: Jet Ja, Guadalupe Paxila and Centro Bachajón. The authorities proposed that the assembly deprive Jerónimo Gómez Méndez, a native of the Jol Tanchibil Yoc Campo ranchería, of his ejido right.
“They are dispossessing the compañero of his land where the have already constructed seven latrines promoted by the federal, state and municipal governments. As an organization we ask for the suspension of the work, making it known through an official writing to the municipal president, the delegate of government and public works (sic) so that they take notice of the issue.” Upon not seeing an answer, the autonomous authorities issued a notice to appear “three times” to the engineering contactor, who “paid no attention.”
The maneuver of the officialists to dispossess the ejido owner from Jol Tanchibil is based on false accusations, but they intend that the assembly accept “to cancel their agrarian right without having done the investigations, because according to authorities, our compañero is not fulfilling the requisites of being an ejido owner and not paying the property tax for 20 tears, and prefabricating the crime of shooting at a school in that very same community.”
In the first place, they specify, the accused is complying with the requisites and paying property taxes.”
The ejido owners of the Sixth have been struggling for seven years against “the bad government’s dispossessions gobierno, like its San Cristóbal-Palenque Super-Highway projects, which affects its territory and doesn’t benefit society.”
Faced with the dispossession of their compañero, “the village made agreements to work collectively, to clean the pasture and take out six of the latrines.” Upon finishing that work, they say, they were attacked from a distance of approximately 500 meters by seven individuals “with firearms and carrying machetes, shooting into the air at the side of the Pablo Galeana bilingual primary school.”
They identified the aggressors as Domingo Gómez Méndez (first and second), Mario Méndez Gutiérrez, as well as Miguel, Anselmo, Nicolás and Armando, all with the surname Gómez Gutiérrez. “The same day Manuel Moreno Jiménez, a lawyer with professional permit 5631499, and a native of Sacun Cubwitz, Chilón, currently located in Yajalón, came to head the fabrication of the crime (against Jernónimo Gómez Méndez)” the denouncers add.
“The lawyer put together a false document, fabricating a crime against our compañero,” accusing him with the others attacked “of being the ones that shot (at the school).”
