Call for screenings of a New Video:

“The Dignified Resistance of San Sebastián Bachajón Continues”

This initiative is supported by the ejidatarios of San Sebastián Bachajón

Greetings Compas

So that we can jointly continue to show solidarity with the dignified struggle of their community in Chiapas, Mexico, we are asking people of good heart to organize screenings of this new video made by Springfield No One Leaves and the Committee of the True Word of Alisal. The video is in Spanish with English subtitles, and is approximately 8 minutes long. In the video, the ejidatarios of San Sebastián Bachajón send a special videomessage in which they make an urgent call for solidarity.

The video tells of more than six years of struggle by the adherents to the Sixth Declaration from San Sebastián Bachajón against dispossession and in defense of their communal lands. During this time, two of their leaders, Juan Vázquez Guzmán and Juan Carlos Gómez Silvano, have been murdered, and 120 people have been imprisoned. Most of these prisoners are now free, thanks to national and international solidarity, but three political prisoners remain in prison.

Focusing on the continuing dignified resistance of the people of San Sebastián Bachajón, the video features the events surrounding their recuperation, on 21st December 2014, of their lands which had been stolen by the bad government, the violent eviction of members of the community by state and federal forces on 9th January, 2015, and the ongoing intermittent roadblock. Since then, the compañer@s have founded a new regional headquarters called “Región San Sebastián” near the Agua Azul junction. Currently, the regional headquarters is at serious risk of eviction. The film ends with a tribute to the great fighter for justice Juan Vázquez Guzmán.
