To national and international adherents to the Sexta

To human rights defenders

To the Councils of Good Government

To the alternative media

To the National Indigenous Congress (CNI)

To the general public

We are a group of men and women campesinos from San Francisco. We are adherents to the Sixth Declaration of the Lacandon Jungle (the Sexta), and live in defence of the land and the territory as indigenous people.

Today, 13 June 2016, we publicly denounce Mr Pedro Hernandez Espinoza who launched a lawsuit to evict us from this land with the Teopisca District Attorney. An investigation was undertaken and according to the legal brief 38/2015 of the first court of San Cristobal on 17 August 2015 the judge issued 7 apprehension orders for our colleagues, members of the Sexta and our group who live in defence of the land and territory. These days our colleagues are being pursued by the police for detention and judgment by the laws of the Bad Government.

Meanwhile, we have filed an injunction to show that we are not committing any crime, and all we are doing is defending what is ours, which is this land.

We also denounce Mr Fransisco de la Cruz Estrada who is a colleague and accomplice of Pedro Hernandez Espinoza. They got together a group to attack us, and stormed our reclaimed land, where for more than 2 centuries we have lived.

The past Sunday, 5 June of this year, a group of men, women and children all armed with machetes arrived here to our community, built on reclaimed land, San Francisco. They are indigenous people, but we don’t know where from. They came with the intention to buy this land from the former land owner but also knowing that this is reclaimed land, occupied by people from this region and we collectively eat and live thanks to the land.

Since July 2012, we have a banner hanging which says this land is not for sale. 28 April 2014 we formally declared the area “El Desengaño” as reclaimed land and we planted corn and beans to sustain our families. Ever since, we, as a group living in defence of the land, have tried on several occasions to talk and come to some kind of agreement with Mr Pedro Hernandez Espinoza. We want him to respect our struggle and not make agreements with other groups, but no formal talks have ever taken place. He promised to remove his livestock in September, but more than 2 years went by and he hadn’t done it. So at the beginning of 2016 we sent him a document asking him to keep his word and in February he send someone to remove the livestock and all of his animals were handed over.

For all these reasons we demand the immediate cancellation of the 7 apprehension orders for our 7 compañeros. If not, we will hold the 3 levels of bad government and all involved authorities responsible for whatever harm or detention may occur to our compañeros and members of our group in defense of the land and the territory.

We also notify the bad government that if they carry out the7 apprehension orders, it would only provoke more problems for them and that for now it’s better to dedicate themselves to resolving the big problems they have now, like the teachers’ movement.

We ask all international and national compañeros of the Sexta and the National Indigenous Congress (CNI) to keep watch over our struggle and what may happen in the future.

“An injury to one, is an injury to all”

Sincerely,

the Organised Group from San Fransisco, Teopisca municipality, Chiapas, Mexico, adherents to the EZLN Sixth Declaration
