1. A huge THANK YOU to all who attended, performed and helped out at the Chiapas Support Committee’s CompArte 2: the Emiliano Zapata Community Festival on August 12. And thanks again to the Akonadi Foundation for making it possible. We are still catching up from all the work that was involved in producing this year’s CompArte Festival, so we’re a little late getting out the news.

2. Waffles & Zapatismo Classes – The next 2 classes on Zapatismo are scheduled for September 23 and October 21, 2017. Classes are held from 10:00am to 1:00 pm. in the lower level (basement) of the Omni Commons, 4799 Shattuck Ave., Oakland.

!. Chinga tu madre Peña Nieto… Zapatistas in the five Caracoles– “Chinga tu madre (fuck you) Peña Nieto and you too Donald Trump” is what the Zapatistas shouted from all 5 of their Caracols during CompArte 2017. In this article, Isaín Mandujano describes some of the artistic presentations at the different Zapatista Caracols during CompArte 2017 in Chiapas.

2. The Hour for Our Peoples to Flourish Has Arrived– This is a Joint comunicado from the CNI (National Indigenous Congress) and the Sixth Commission of the EZLN. It announces ANOTHER STEP FORWARD has been taken in support of the candidacy of the Indigenous Government Coouncil’s spokesperson, María de Jesús Patricio Martínez. Specifically, the legal requirement to form a Civil Association has been completed. The comunicado lists the current members of the Civil Association, which is named “The Hour for Our Peoples to Flourish Has Arrived.”

3.Macri’s war against the Mapuche people – Raúl Zibechi describes some history and economics related to the current struggle of the Mapuche people for autonomy in Argentina. He also describes the repression and desire to exploit Mapuche land for mono-crop agri-business (soy), oil and mining. Nevertheless, Zibechi reports that the Mapuches are winning; they have recuperated 250,000 hectares (more than 600,000 acres) of land from large landowners over the last 15 years.
